During the French and Indian War in 1757, Hawkeye (Daniel Day-Lewis)—a white man raised by the Mohican tribe after refusing conscription into the British colonial militia—dramatically rescues Cora, the daughter of a British colonel, from an ambush by the Huron tribe allied with the French. As they navigate a treacherous journey, Hawkeye and Cora fall into a deep love that transcends social status. However, pursued relentlessly by Magua, a Huron warrior harboring a deep-seated hatred for white people, they are forced into a final, high-stakes battle for the survival of the Mohican tribe. To portray this role, Daniel Day-Lewis underwent months of actual wilderness survival training, delivering powerful, raw action sequences and intense emotional performances without any stunt doubles.
