1815년 영국의 한 한적한 마을, 하트필드 저택에 살고 있는 21세의 아가씨 엠마 우드하우스는 부족함 없는 삶을 누리는 마을의 ‘퀸비(Queen Bee)’입니다. 자신은 평생 결혼하지 않겠다고 당당히 선언한 독신주의자이지만, 타인의 남녀 관계를 본인의 입칠대로 엮어주는 ‘중매’에는 영혼을 바칠 만큼 열성적입니다.

While she proudly declares herself a lifelong spinster who will never marry, she is passionately devoted to matchmaking—treating the romance of others as her ultimate personal hobby.
Riding high on her success after pairing her devoted governess with a neighboring gentleman, Emma sets her sights on her next target: Harriet Smith, a sweet but socially unremarkable young girl she meets at a local school. Determined to find Harriet a high-society husband, Emma pressures her into rejecting a marriage proposal from a respectable farmer, attempting instead to match her with Mr. Elton, the town's young vicar.
However, human emotions refuse to follow Emma's meticulous staging. Mr. Elton shatters her plans by proposing to Emma herself rather than Harriet, and the arrival of the mysterious and charming Frank Churchill further stirs up Emma's heart.
